About the event
The book is the result of Alberto Morales' journey and stay at the Argentine bases in Antarctica for forty days in 2005. He was invited by the DNA (Dirección Nacional del Antártico) — as a visual artist with the status of a researcher — for the Argentine Antarctic Cultural Project. The book tells the story, the journey, and the adventure of an Argentine artist on the white continent.
His mission was to interpret Antarctica as a subject for his work: to gather images and sensations from the territory, to come into direct contact with its nature and the people who work there. In this way, he aimed to convey a poetic vision of Antarctica to a broad audience.
While there, Morales worked on small sketches, notes, paintings, and photographs. Upon returning to his studio in Buenos Aires, he used these materials to create the works that describe his experience. He paints what happens to the human soul in a territory that is extreme in every sense and in a state of pure isolation. Morales captures the white on white, the stone and ice, the light, its long summer days and extended winter nights, the atmosphere, the wind, and the cold. Most painfully, his work reflects the current reality of the continent — the impact of climate change.
